Here it is, my ode to the most delicious vegetable out there… the potato! Fried, grilled, mashed, baked, roasted, whipped, sliced, or diced, it’s fabulous. For pretty much any meal, for pretty much any spice, potatoes are real nice! Alright, I swear the cheesy rhymes will stop. (Somewhere I imagine Dr. Seuss is rolling over in his grave.) But it’s no secret that potatoes are my favorite food. I pretty much can eat them all day, every day. That they can be dressed up, dressed down, or eaten plain makes them convenient for my chaotic life. A life without potatoes is a boring one indeed. The few times I’ve munched on french fries since starting P90X have increased my love for them. Their salty, warm deliciousness absolutely hit my taste buds’ spot. They are my ultimate comfort food. I’ve never been a huge fan of sweets. Sure, they are delicious and I won’t say I’ll turn down a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream, because I most likely won’t. But for the most part I just don’t crave them. There are days, like yesterday, where’s there’s nothing I really want BUT a potato. (I am proud of myself though, I’ve managed not to make a Wendy’s run despite the mega-craving). In fact, I judge hamburger places and fast food restaurants by their french fries. There are restaurants I tend avoid because I know I can find a better potato elsewhere. And avoid may be a strong word, it’s more that given the choice I probably wouldn’t choose their establishment. It’s probably a little crazy, but I’m perfectly ok with that. I own it. Aren’t you picky about your favorite food? And given that I think it’s difficult to really make a bad potato, I almost think it’s the establishment’s fault for not improving their product… or at least that’s what I tell myself. I’m sure a shrink would say otherwise.
But seriously, who wants to eat a pumpkin when you could have a potato?!
