What a weekend! Friday started off with an extremely early alarm time, a cold shower, and off to the airport I went. After a quick stop in Kansas City, I landed in Indianapolis… where it was 1 degree. 1 degree! (As I sat on the runway in Dallas, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t re-considering the decision to go after that announcement was made.. but of course that was a fleeting thought!) Katy picked me up from the Union around 4:00 and then the fun started.
Now I’m going to brag about my friends for a moment… Katy is probably the best English teacher in West Lafayette (and her stories about her classes are priceless. I believe I have her convinced to guest post here from time to time, so look forward to that.) In December she closed on her first house (pictured above). It’s an adorable 4 bedroom, 2 bath house not too far from her school. Not many people own a home at 25 years old, let alone such a nice one, but she does both and is about to graduate from her masters program with a Masters in Education.. I do believe that gives her Rock-Star status!
After dinner, chatting, gelato (for Meghan and Katy), hot chocolate (for me), more chatting, collecting Amy from the train station, and even more chatting, Friday came to an end. A lazy Saturday morning started off with a quick trip to Discount Den for Den Pops before meeting up with Meghan and newly-arrived Amanda. (A den pop is a giant 32 oz soda for $0.56, a very popular treat to go grab in between classes at Purdue.) As everyone else started to get into town we met for lunch at Moe’s and an afternoon of chatting and laughing and catching up with one another. Does the title of this post seem… unusual? It came out that one of us (who-shall-not-be-called-out-by-name) named each of their hands when they were little!! See, I told you my friends were awesome!
After dinner at Scotty’s Brewhouse, it was game time. Purdue defeated Michigan State 86-76!! Purdue came and by the middle of the second quarter had a 10 point lead and from that point out Michigan State never really was able to mount a come back. We had our moments, but if we keep it up there’s no reason why we can’t make it to the Elite 8 this year, and really no reason we can’t with the Big 10 Tournament outright.
Kath woke us up at 8:00am the next morning and cooked a fabulous feast of cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes. After a little more chatting, we all started to trickle home and the weekend was over. It was so fun to get to see these wonderful girls. They are all amazing and even though I sometimes go months without talking to them, they are always there and we can pick up where we left off the last time. I know I said I wasn’t going to do resolutions this year, but keeping in better touch with them really is a goal for me. Our next reunion will be in July for Laura’s wedding (ps- Laura if you’re reading this, we missed you so much and it wasn’t the same without you there!) It was a great weekend, a great vacation, and I can’t wait to do it all over again.
