New Job, New Start

I don’t think I’ve written about my new job yet, so here goes. Last Monday (as in 8 days ago) I started my new job as a Data Analyst at an oil and gas company here in Dallas, TX. In short, I LOVE IT. The people are sweet and funny, the work is challenging, and on top of all of this, I’m learning an entirely new industry. Drilling is an art, and these guys that I work with are continually trying to perfect it. I work at least 10 hour days, and for the most part they pass so quickly I don’t even realize how long I’ve been here. At any given time I have between 5-10 tasks on my plate, and as long as they all get done I can switch back and forth between them as much as I want. The creative tasks are a nice reprieve from the more science/technical related tasks. While it took 6 very long and stressful months to get here, it was definitely worth the wait. The unique combination of science, business, and creativity in this position suits my personality perfectly. And even though I’m still more in the “training” phase at my job, I do feel like I am contributing. There is my almost week-and-a-half work update!
