It’s finally summer, and I couldn’t be happier. Seriously. Despite my apparent sun-allergy (sunburns can be considered allergic reactions, right? red swollen skin sounds like an allergy to me!), I love being outdoors. Whether its on a patio, by the pool, or out on the field, I’m a happy camper. My love for the outdoors, combined with a slight competitive streak, means that I’ve gone just a tad overboard in signing up for summer activities. Thus far, I’m on three softball teams, one kickball team (potentially a second if it gets organized), and a flag football team. Yep I’m crazy, but I love it. I partially blame my parents because growing up they put me on every team in every sport possible. Looking back I’m sure their reasons were two-fold: 1- to wear me, with my limitless energy, out, and 2- keep me out of trouble, especially as I got older. I have so many memories of frantically getting changed from one uniform to another going from soccer to basketball, softball to volleyball, tennis to swimming while my mom drove me from place to place. (PS- learning how to put on a swimsuit without flashing anyone while in a moving vehicle wasn’t easy and required some skill and timing!) The main differences are that now I can drive myself, I change clothes less often in my car (it still happens on occasion), and where I used to drink gatorade after games, now I usually join teammates at the bar and have a beer or two. It’s a great time! Through these leagues, I’ve met a lot of people, made a lot of friends, and I’m having a blast!!
